The EView/400i product installs a number of different policies to enhance the monitoring of iSeries servers. One of the available policies will monitor jobs or subsystems and provide alerts when different conditions are detected. One such condition is alerting the operator when a job or subsystem is not active when it should be.
In the following video, I walk through the configuration steps to configure a subsystem to be monitored and automatically restart the subsystem when it is not active.
EView/400i Version 6 is now available for the HP Operations Manager for Windows platform. Version 6 contains many new features designed to enhance AS/400-iSeries monitoring and configuration of the product.
The configuration interface has been completely rewritten and is now web-based and replaces the EView/400 Configurator Java program. The new web-based configuration interface also contains new configuration items for adding and editing monitor based configuration data, for example, job monitor data or job queue configuration data. Another advantage of the configuration interface is that it does not require terminal access to the Operations Manager server. The web-based interface allows remote access using any one of several supported web browsers. When launched the familiar configuration launchpad will appear in the web browser.
A major new enhancement in EView/400i Version 6 is the system audit journal monitor. This optional feature when active will monitor the system audit journal in real time and provide alerts to the Operations Manager console for selected security related events. Version 6 currently supports 21 different security related events, such as system value changes, user profile related events, object events like create or delete objects and many more. Audit events are sent to the Operations Manager message stream where rules from a Message Policy can be applied to the event. This allows you to create rules that use pattern matching to apply different severities, actions or instructions based on the content of the event message.
For customers that want to forward all Inquiry type messages from a monitored message queue without having to add all Inquiry messages to the message filter, the message queue configuration now contains a new option. The new INQUIRY option when set to YES, will cause the EView/400 agent to always forward messages with a type of INQUIRY to the Operations manager server.
Two new measurement threshold monitor policies have been added in Version 6. The AS400_JOBCNT policy will monitor the number of copies of the selected job that are active on the system. This monitor is useful in cases where an application needs to have a minimum number of copies of a job running to ensure optimum performance. The AS400_MQMON policy is a monitor for systems running the IBM MQ Series product. The monitor has the capability of monitoring MQ channel status and MQ queue depths. The channels and queues to be monitored are configured by adding MQ Series Display commands in an agent configuration file.
EView/400 customers with current support will receive new license keys for Version 6 for all registered AS/400s along with download instructions.
